SGF Falkirk summit to feature Minister for DRS and much more

The Scottish Grocers’ Federation’s annual Mini-Summit will bring together industry experts, retailers and headline speakers such as the Scottish Government’s Minister for Circular Economy, to debate a range of priority topics for the sector.

With doors opening from 9.30am tomorrow (18th May) at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel, Falkirk, sessions will include DRS, MUP and potential restrictions on Alcohol Advertising, Vaping Products and Foods High in Fat, Sugar & Salt.

Retailers and delegates will benefit from having direct access to leading spokespersons, with the most up-to-date information on each subject. Including several Question & Answer sessions with top Scottish Government officials on HFSS; the Director General UKVIA on vaping; the CEO of Scotland Food & Drink and the Head of Licensing for TLT Solicitors on alcohol and many many more.

SGF Chief Executive Dr Pete Cheema OBE said: “We are delighted to able to host colleagues from all over Scotland at the wonderful Macdonald Inchyra, for our annual Mini-Summit.

“Our sector is more relevant than ever for communities across the country and for the Scottish Economy. The goal of the event is to highlight and inform delegates on some of the core issues impacting the entire retail industry.

“The crucial strength of our sector is that we stimulate economic growth and build resilience into the communities which we serve. However, many stores are facing an extremely challenging trading environment, with high levels of food inflation, energy costs, and a cost-of-living crisis. Bearing down on many struggling households.

“Our governments and institutions must recognise that all new regulation comes at a cost, at a time when convenience retailers and their communities need support and investment for the future.”

The Mini-Summit will also see the launch of SGF’s flagship Retailer Guides on Vaping and DRS (with a Foreword from the Minister) and hard copies will be available at the event.
