UK & Scottish Govts announce delay to single use vape ban - to 1st June 2025

The Scottish Government has announced a delay to the planned ban on the sale of single use vapes, in order to align with the ban coming into force in England and Wales. The ban will now come into force in Scotland on 1st June 2025 (previously 1st April).

SGF previously joined sector colleagues in calling for a delay to the ban, to allow a sufficient sell through period and ensure alignment across the UK. Alongside concerns of a potential increase in illicit trade following the ban.

Yesterday (Thurs 24th), the UK Government laid new legislation to ban the sale of single use vapes in England from 1st June 2025. The Welsh Government had already agreed to the new date. Read more here: UK Govt announcement on single use vape ban.

There will be no period of grace and retailers will be expected to remove all disposable vapes from sale before 1st June.

The UK Government Tobacco & Vapes Bill is also in process and provision outlined in the Bill will enable Ministers to make further changes to vaping and tobacco regulation in the coming years. This will include a ‘generational ban’ on the sale of Tobacco after 2027.

SGF hopes you find this information useful and will keep members updated as the situation progresses.
