2027 ‘more likely’ for delivery of UK Deposit Return Scheme – UK Govt

In a question-and-answer session with the UK Parliament Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee on Tuesday 26th April, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs stated that a go live date for the UK-wide DRS in 2025 is no longer ‘realistic’. He proposed that a delivery date of 2027 would be ‘more likely’, and that these matters are being discussed in government.

While there has not been an official statement to date, the Secretary of State has highlighted that interoperability and business engagement is a key consideration going forward.

SGF supports the rollout of a fit for purpose Deposit Return Scheme and has continued to work and engage with both the Scottish Government and the UK Government (DEFRA) on this matter. SGF will keep members up to date as the situation progresses.
