A Retail Strategy for Scotland

Scottish Grocers Federation has broadly welcomed the publication of the Scottish Government’s Retail Strategy. The Strategy was launched in the Scottish Parliament (24th March) by Tom Arthur MSP, the Minister for Public Finance.

The Strategy outlines how the Scottish Government, business leaders and trade unions can work together to unlock opportunities to grow businesses and the economy, improve wellbeing and address inequality, and support progress towards Scotland’s climate change targets. The actions in the Strategy are grouped around four key areas of People, Place, Sector and Just Transition. The success of SGF’s Scottish government supported Go Local Program is highlighted in the document.

SGF head of public affairs Dr John Lee commented,

“The development and launch of the retail strategy is a clear signal from the Scottish government about the importance of retail to Scotland’s economy and communities. SGF was part of the industry steering group which developed it and will continue to work with the Scottish government to ensure the strategy is delivered in partnership and collaboration with the retail industry.”

An Industry Leadership Group will be set up to oversee the implementation and future development of the strategy.
