Two-page briefing (SGF members): government proposals to create a smokefree generation and tackle youth vaping

The UK and Scottish governments have now published the full analysis and response to the consultation: Creating a smokefree generation and tackling youth vaping.

You can download the summary below, which outlines the expected measures announced by ministers on 29th January 2024. This includes proposed bans, restrictions, and changes to the sale of tobacco and vaping products, which are expected be delivered across the whole of the UK.

We have also detailed the likely process required for ministers to deliver these changes, which will require further consultation in the coming months.

You can find the briefing here.

In parliament on Wednesday Emma Harper MSP raised the following question:

To ask the Scottish Government, in light of the announcement from the UK Government that it plans to ban single use vapes to protect children’s health, whether it will outline what action is being taken in Scotland.

You can watch the answer given here.
