Road Safety Drug Driving Campaign Launch
The Scottish Government has launched a new Drug Driving Campaign.
During the festive period Police Scotland will be ready to catch drug-drivers with roadside tests using drug wipes for any motorist they suspect of drug-driving. If the test is positive, drivers will be arrested.
With latest Police Scotland data revealing almost half of driver’s drug tested at the roadside were arrested for drug-driving, the hard-hitting campaign reminds drivers that drug-driving is not worth the risk. If convicted, you could face a 12-month driving ban, a fine of up to £5,000 and up to six months in prison.
Driving under the influence of drugs, or any other substance such as alcohol, can destroy lives. Drugs can slow down your responses, making a collision more likely. This can lead to severe injuries and even death. Taking drugs or combining them with alcohol multiplies your risk of being involved in a collision.
The Drug Driving campaign will be live from 1 December and will be live on radio, digital, social, PR and partnership channels. All information is available via the Road Safety Scotland Website - Drug Driving
