Retailers Support MSP’s Calls for Action on Retail Crime Crisis

A group of Trade Associations and sector representatives from across retail have written a joint letter penned by Daniel Johnson MSP to the newly appointed Chief Constable of Police Scotland, Jo Farrell. The letter highlighted the issue of Retail Crime and urging Police to make tackling it a top priority going forward. The Protection of Workers (Retail and Age-restricted Goods and Services) (Scotland) Act 2021, which came into force in August 2021 to tackle retail-specific cases of abuse or assault, has been used 7,955 times in the first two years since it came into effect.

SGF is also prioritising the issue of retail crime, given the damage that it is doing to our members. SGF will continue to engage with Ministers and political representatives across all parties on this important issue. On Monday 6th November, we will meet with the MSP to discuss what we can do to ensure that government and Police Scotland take urgent action on retail crime.
