Reporting figures updated: Protection of Workers (Retail and Age Restricted Goods and Services) Act 2021

Please find our most up to date statistics on reports to Police Scotland under The Protection of Workers (Retail and Age Restricted Goods and Services) (Scotland) Act 2021.

Since its launch on 24th August 2021 through to 28th February 2023, the legislation has been utilised 5306 times, which is an average of 9.6 incidents reported to Police Scotland every day.

The legislation is broken down into three sub crimes:

  1. Serious Assault of a Retail Worker – 19 reports

  2. Common Assault of a Retail Worker – 2268 reports

  3. Threatening and Abusive Behaviour of a Retail Worker – 3019 reports.
