Police Scotland alert: Increased circulation of counterfeit banknotes and how to identify them

Retailers and Police Scotland have reported increases in the use of counterfeit bank notes. Pens are often not adequate to test the legality of the latest counterfeit notes, and some UV light systems will not work either.

New Kings Charles III Bank of England notes that are now in circulation potentially provide fraudsters an opportunity to create new counterfeit notes - it is essential for retailers to remain vigilant. Banknotes featuring Queen Elizabeth II and the King will be in circulation at the same time. More information on this can be found here.

If there is any suspicion about the authenticity of a banknote, please contact the police and retain the note
