PackUK – the new scheme administrator for Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility launches
PackUK, the newly established scheme administrator for the UK's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging, has commenced operations. This marks a step towards the start of the EPR program, which purpose is to move the costs of managing packaging waste from taxpayers and local authorities to the businesses that produce the packaging.
PackUK's Core Functions:
They will establish and collect fees from obligated producers.
They will distribute funds to local authorities to support recycling and waste management programs.
They will be responsible for public awareness campaigns to promote proper disposal of packaging.
They will work with packaging producers and other stakeholders to improve the scheme's delivery and establish a Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO).
Data Reporting Requirements:
Large Producers: Required to submit data twice per year (Jan-June by Oct 1, July-Dec by April 1).
Small Producers: Required to submit data annually (Jan-Dec by April 1).
Failure to meet these deadlines may result in enforcement measures.
PackUK will be at the Packaging Innovations Birmingham on 12-13 February 2025. This event will feature expert speakers and industry figures sharing key knowledge, breakout sessions, and opportunities to engage directly with the PackUK team.
