OIM launches a study of regulatory restrictions on single-use plastics products
The Office for the Internal Market (OIM), which is part of the Competition and Markets Authority, has launched a study into single-use plastics regulations. Part of this study will examine the effects that the different single-use plastics regulations in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have had on businesses, and how they have adapted to them.
The OIM is independent of the governments but does provide advice to them on how specific regulations could impact on businesses and on trading between the UK nations. Their role is to support effective trading within the UK to help the economy. Whilst they cannot tell governments how to regulate, they can help their understanding of the possible effects on business that their regulations could have.
The OIM is eager to gather views on single-use plastics regulations and learn how businesses have responded to them. They are also interested in understanding the impacts these regulations have had on businesses. To this end, they have created a short online survey, open until 16 September 2024, where participants can share their opinions. Early responses are encouraged to help shape the study, with more details available on the project page and in the press release.
The OIM is also keen to speak directly with stakeholders. Interested parties are encouraged to email OIM-SUP@cma.gov.uk to arrange a meeting.
