New inserts in cigarette packs to help smokers quit

The UK Government is seeking views on adding pack inserts into tobacco products to encourage more smokers to quit as it launched a new consultation on 14th August.

Placed inside the packaging of cigarettes and hand rolling tobacco, they would contain messages aimed at encouraging people to quit and signpost them to advice and support. The messages set out the health benefits of quitting, as well as showing smokers how much money they could save by giving up.

Pack inserts are already in use in other countries, including in Canada and Israel.

More information on this can be found here.

SGF will engage with members and respond to this consultation in due course.
