Low Pay Commission regional visits 2024 – Your chance to be heard

The Low Pay Commission (LPC) will be meeting workers and businesses across the UK, on six regional visits. This is your chance to let them know how you are affected by the increasing cost of employing staff. On the 12-13 June, they will be in North Ayrshire and Glasgow. They want to hear from businesses on the following:

  • How businesses have responded to the rising NLW and NMW.

  • The other factors – whether local or national, sector-specific, or more general – which affect businesses alongside the minimum wage.

  • Compliance and enforcement of the NMW and NLW.

  • How businesses are raising their productivity.

SGF is encouraging members to participate. To take part, you can email at lpc@lowpay.gov.uk or call on 07511 162 380. You can read more about these regional visits here.

The Low Pay Commission (LPC) has also recently published a short report marking the imminent increases in the NMW and NLW, and projecting the NLW rate for April 2025. The central estimate for next year’s rate is £11.89.

On 1st April, SGF and the University of Stirling published our annual ‘True Cost of Employment report. Highlighting both the upfront and hidden costs of providing employment in convenience retail.

We will be engaging with the Low Pay Commission (LPC) by attending an oral evidence session in London in July. We will also be responding to their consultation on the rates for next year.
