Food Standards Scotland (FSS) report exploring calorie content of sweet discretionary products

Food Standards Scotland (FSS) have published a report which explores the calorie content of sweet discretionary products such as cakes, muffins, sweet pastries and doughnuts commonly sold out of home. The data was gathered between May and September 2022 and shows a very wide range of products for sale as well as a high average value of 465 calories, with the highest calorie products having over 1,600 calories. The report demonstrates the scope for reformulation for these products.

To support this, FSS has agreed to be a Reformul8 partner with the Food and Drink Federation Scotland (FDFS).  The Reformul8 programme, which is funded by Scottish Government, supports food and drink manufacturers to make changes which support improvements to the diet. Support is available for small and medium sized business and both FDFS members and non-members.  For more details, please click here.
