Energy bill support expected to be reduced following delay to Energy Bill Relief Scheme announcement

News media is reporting that support for businesses with energy costs is expected to be halved from April 2023. The news follows comments from the Chancellor of the Exchequer which were made in a meeting with business groups on 4th January, that the support would be at a "lower level" to protect the public finances from volatile energy markets.

  • In December, the UK Government issued a delay to the announcement of plans to continue Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS) for businesses beyond March 2023 - following a three-month investigation carried out by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. The details are now expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

  • Daily discount rates are available for business and other non-domestic energy users who are on both fixed and default/variable contracts with their energy supplier. For more information, go to: Discounts for fixed and variable contracts
